WOMEN’S HEALTH SITUATION WITH BREAST CANCER: A CASE-CONTROL STUDY

“Objective: To compare women’s health situation with and without breast cancer in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. Methods: it was used a Case-control study with 90 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer treated at Mastology program of a federal public hospital and 166 women without the disease. The bank and data analysis were performed using the Epi-Info software, version 7.1.5, by calculating absolute and relative frequencies, and means and standard deviations. For association analysis was performed using the chi-square test of Pearson (categorical variables) and T student test (continuous variables). Results: The average age of patients was 52.58 ± 11.08 and 52.76 ± 11.15 years controls. In health status characteristics were no statistically significant associations for family history of breast cancer (p=0,005) with reporting 18.89% in cases and 7.27% in controls, the use of hormone replacement therapy (p=0,0001) with average use of 1.10 ± 0.3 years for cases and 1.32 ± 0.47 years for controls, smoking (p=0,001) often of 46.66% in the case group and 28.91% in the control and alcohol drinking (p=0,008) in which 22.22% cases and 39.40% controls had the habit. Analyses of age of menopause (p=0,75), breastfeeding (p=0,76), pregnancy (p=0,60), number of children (p=0,29) and age of the first child (p=0,69) showed no statistically significant differences between cases and controls. Conclusion: goianas Women with breast cancer have a family history of breast cancer, make use of hormone replacement therapy, were smokers and reported less alcohol consumption when compared to women without the disease.
