“OBJECTIVES: To analyze the annual percentage change of mammographic screening coverage conducted by the National Health System (SUS) in Brazil, in its macro-regions and Federation Units (UF) from 2008–2015. METHODS: Ecological time series study, with analysis of information regarding mammograms performed by SUS, available in the Outpatient Information System (SIA/DATASUS) for women 50-69 years. Data analysis was done using Joinpoint Regression for calculating the annual percentage change (APC) with a confidence interval (CI) of 95% and statistical significance at p<0.05. RESULTS: In Brazil, the mammographic coverage showed a 14.4% increase trend (CI: 12.0–16.9; p <0.05) in the period 2008-2012 and stabilization of -0.1% (CI: -3,4–-3,4; p=1.0) in the years 2012-2015. Stratifying by macroregion, it was observed that the North and Northeast showed a 9.5% increase trend (CI: 6.1–13.0; p <0.05) and 11.4% (CI: 7.5–15.4; p<0.05), respectively, during the study period. In the Midwest there was a 10.6% increase trend (CI: 9.2–12.1; p<0.05) 2008-2013 and -16.3% decrease trend (CI: -21.2–-11.2; p<0.05) from 2013-2015. Macroregions Southeast 17.1% (CI: 10.2–24.4; p<0.05) and South 21.9% (CI: 16.2–27.9; p<0.05) showed an increased trend coverage in the period 2008-2011 and stabilization for 2011-2015. Of the 27 states, 45% showed an increased trend over the study period (p<0.05). Pernambuco had the highest increased trend 17.9% (CI: 12.9–23.1; p<0.05). Two states showed reduction in mammographic coverage in the periods 2012-2015 and 2013-2015, respectively; Santa Catarina -8.3% (CI: -15.7–-0.3; p<0.05) and Goias -17.1% (CI: -30.7–-0.7; p<0.05). Nine UF showed stabilization of APC and four UF was initially significant increase trend, followed by stabilization trend. CONCLUSION: There was an increased mammographic coverage by SUS in Brazil by 2012, and stabilization between 2012 and 2015. The coverage is low and there is no uniformity among regions and between UF.Keywords: Breast Cancer; Screening Programs; Mammography; Health Services Coverage.”
