THE CONSULTATION OF RADIOTHERAPY NURSING PATIENTS IN THE TREATMENT OF BREAST CANCER

Hospital Araújo Jorge da Associação de Combate ao Câncer em GoiásTo report the experience of the nursing consultation in the radiotherapy sector of a philanthropic hospital. The consultations are carried out from the 10 application in order to evaluate the adverse effects resulting from the radiotherapy treatment and to monitor the care taken during the treatment. The main effect is radiodermatitis after the second week of radiotherapy. And the care is very important to minimize the effects and help in the prevention of them. Guidelines for care are related to the skin of the irradiated area, whether bathing in warm or cold water, neutral soap, non-rubbing, using physician-directed moisturizer or nurse service, avoiding the use of bra, tight clothing and fabrics Synthetic, cotton clothing preference to avoid sun exposure, increased water intake. During the consultation, the evaluation of the irradiated area, and classification according to the criteria of acute toxicity caused by the radiotherapy treatment (RTOG), and protocols for each degree of radiodermatitis were used. Patients with bulky breast, pendent, folded areas and skin coloring may increase the risk of radiodermatitis and in some cases the consultations are weekly, interspersed nursing and medical.
