KEY FINDINGS MAMMOGRAPHIC PERFORMED IN TOCANTINS IN PERIOD 2010 TO 2013

O“Objective: Quantify data mammographic findings made in the state of Tocantins. Methods: A cross-sectional study of the main mammographic findings made in Tocantins according to different age groups was held in 2010 to 2013, based on data recorded in the Information System of Breast Cancer – SisMama, and held the chi-square test with 5% significance. Results: During the period under review were conducted 50,654 mammograms in women in Tocantins, with 2013 the year of more examinations (15,710). In 82.96% of all mammograms performed no radiological finding was not found. Nodules represented 11.19% of test results, and microcalcifications only 0.18%. When comparing the laterality of the breast with the radiological findings and the presence of axillary lymph node was obtained p= 0.507 for breast lumps, p= 0.521 for microcalcifications and p= 0.09 for axillary lymph nodes. Mammograms with BIRADS 2 were majority: 21,669; in the period 2010-2013 there was a decrease of 6% in the proportion of BIRADS 0 and 25% increase in reports with BIRADS 4. When one takes into account the age, 71.82% of women with BIRADS 5 category are between 40 and 69 years. As a recommendation after the result of mammography, 42,442 women had to repeat the exam in two years and only 22 patients immediately started therapy. Conclusion: In Tocantins relevant percentage of mammograms performed did not identify breast changes, as literature, the age group with the highest prevalence BIRADS 5 was between 40 and 69 years. Being the most common breast cancer in women in Brazil and in the world, it is extremely important to mammographic results as a means of early detection and screening of breast changes, along with clinical examination.Key words: mammographic findings; breast cancer; women’s health.”
