EXPERIENCE OF BREAST CANCER CARE LINE IN THE SPECIALTIES OF MEDICAL CLINIC

Objective: Describe the experience of the implementation of breast cancer care line (BCCL) in the specialties of medical clinic (AME). This created to provide that cases referred by primary care have priority in medical care, access to diagnostic confirmation on the first visit and appropriate treatment as soon as possible. Methodology: All patients with suspected breast cancer examined from november 2013 to february 2015 were admitted to the program (BCCL) in order to perform mammography and biopsy on the same day of the consultation, histological results in 7 days and scheduling at the referral center within 20 days after diagnosis. Results: 7,406 patients were attended and 223 (3%) admitted to the care line. Mammography was performed on the first day in 96% of cases, result of the biopsy was available in 7 days in 97%, positive rate for carcinoma was 90% and scheduling at the referral center within 20 days in 84%. Conclusion: The flowchart of care line was successful reaching its objectives in relation to tests for deadlines, results biopsies and physician referral. The BCCL ensures the humane care and the diagnosis and appropriate treatment in a timely manner.
