Objectives: Analyze the trend of hospital mortality from breast cancer in the state of Sao Paulo by age groups between 1999 and 2012 recognizing the age profiles. Methodology: This is a quantitative, descriptive and retrospective time series on the mortality rate of women with breast cancer living in the state of São Paulo. The study was based on monthly and annual data of hospitalization for breast cancer in the state of São Paulo, collected from the DATASUS (Department of the Ministry of Health Informatics). The survey period covers 13 consecutive years, from 1999 to 2012 analyzing differences in mortality and hospitalization. The age groups were stratified into three groups: 20 to 39 years from 40 to 59 years and 60 years or more. Data were obtained from the Information System Hospitalization (SIH) and treated in Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheets with information concerning 358,756 hospitalizations. Results: Results: The results showed an increased incidence of breast cancer among the three groups, however, there was a greater increase in mortality in the group of women between 20 and 39 years. Although the age group of 60 years or more was higher incident throughout the study period, it was not the age group that suffered the greatest increase when calculated the difference between the mortality rate in 1999 and 2012. Both have varied over the years, with the age group between 20 and 39 increased by 2.11% and the age group 60 and over increased by 1.96% when compared to the beginning and end of the study period. Conclusion: It is observed that mortality increased among young women, requiring the implementation of public policies that improve access to clinical breast examination and mammography in patients with risk factors.
