Federal University of GoiásThe objective of this work is to know the studies developed regarding the use of tattooing in the nipple-areola reconstruction. In the preparation of this bibliographic review some search terms were used: Breast neoplasms, Mammoplast. These terms were introduced in Brazilian and international bibliographical bases, such as Scielo – Scientific Library online. In addition, articles were searched in national and international magazines such as: Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Brazilian Journal of Mastology, Brazilian Plastic Surgery Journal, Portal Capes. In the analyzed articles the lack of symmetry, color difference and texture between the nipple-areola complex are common complaints among patients submitted to breast reconstruction after mastectomy. The use of a tattoo to complement the reconstruction presented good results in the work on coloring and the possibility of correcting shape and size with low morbidity, low risk of infection and allergic reactions. Negative points of the use of the tattoo were fading, with possibility of retouching and dependence of the skill of the professional with the instruments and with the technique of pigmentation. This work allowed the analysis of the use of tattoos in breast reconstruction, concluding that the technique is successful in all cases analyzed, with small restrictions that can be solved with later retouching and the appropriate choice of the professional.Breast neoplasm, Mammoplast, Nipple-areola reconstruction, Tattoo
