“According to World’s Health Organization, women of reproductive age are those between 15 and 44 years old. Breast cancer is still the leading cancer killer among women aged 20–59 years worldwide. In 2012, 1.7 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and half a million women died from the disease. When a woman dies from breast cancer, she is often at the prime of her life, is the primary caregiver in a family, and is also a working-member in her community. Therefore, actions of prevention and early diagnosis must be taken to reduce the number of deaths within this age group. The objective of this study is to identify the mortality of women of reproductive age by breast cancer in the State of Goias in the period from 2010 to 2013. The research was done using data available in the Mortality Information System of DataSUS, provided by the Nacional Health Ministry. Concerning the period from 2010 to 2013, a total of 385 deaths by breast cancer were found in women of reproductive age, meaning 24,6% of the deaths by cancer in these women. In development countries like Brazil, women are likely to be diagnosed only at a late stage of breast cancer — and in many settings, even access to supportive and palliative care is lacking. Early diagnosis and access to good quality, affordable and timely care are the keystones of breast cancer control. Some risk factors can be modified through information and advocacy, including unhealthy diets, physical inactivity and harmful use of alcohol and tobacco.
