INSTITUTO DE PATOLOGIA TROPICAL E SAÚDE PÚBLICA/UFGBreast cancer represents a serious public health problem in Brazil and also in the state of Goiás, because it is the first type of cancer that kills women the most. To evaluate the historical series of mammography examinations, 2008 to 2015, and mortality rates for breast cancer, from 2008 to 2015, in the state of Goiás. Quantitative study of the Mammographic Ratio Indicator (SIA) and Breast Cancer Mortality Rates (SIM; IBGE). The study of the historical series of the Mammogram Ratio indicators showed decreasing indexes over the interval between 2008 and 2015 and showed an ineffective prevention for this disease according to the mortality rate, which almost doubled for breast cancer in this interval. In the state of Goiás, it is necessary to gather the efforts of managers and health professionals, in order to ensure the effectiveness of strategies for the prevention and control of breast cancers, offering effective mammography screening through organized screening for the satisfactory and conscious adhesion of the female population, regarding the age group and periodicity of the same, and with that, to obtain the reduction of the mortality rates.Breast-Cancer, mammography, Mortality
