ANALYSIS OF THE QUANTITY OF MAMMOGRAPHIES DONE IN GOIÁS FROM 2009 TO 2012 IN THE FEMALE POPULATION FROM 50 TO 69 YEARS

Federal University of GoiásTo analyze the quantity of mammographies done in Goiás from 2009 to 2012, in the female age group from 50 to 69 years old. Cross-section study, descriptive, with statistical analysis based on secondary data from the Breast Cancer Information System (SISMAMA) about the amount of mammographies made in Goiás, comparing it with the Midwest region and Brazil, between 2009 and 2012, involving the 50 – 69 age group. From 2009 to 2012, 77 030 mammographies were made in Goiás, in the female age group from 50 to 69 years old, including both diagnosed and in tracing patients. The year 2009 registered the smaller number over the said period, with only 5 707 mammographies made, representing a percentage of 1,4% of the women population, on this age group. In the next year, this number increased considerably, revealing a greater percentage of women who did mammography. So, 2010 compute 21 726 mammographies (4,8%), in 2011 there were 23 786 (5,2%) and in 2012 the total was 25 811 (5,6%). Although Goiás is the Midwest state with the larger absolute number of mammographies over the said period, Mato Grosso do Sul represent the biggest gear ratio of mammographies per women in every year, except 2009. According to the same nacional data, Goiás summed, in every year, a gear ratio 50% smaller of done exams by the studied population than the country average. Although Goiás is the Midwest state with the greatest absolute number of mammographies in its region, in 2012, the year when most of the exams were made, only 5.6% of the total of women in screening age were submited to mammography. In addition, Goiás is bellow the national averege. So, it is paramount that the efforts on breast cancer screening should be increased.breast cancer, mammography
