Federal University of Goiás; Pontifical Catholic University of GoiásAnalyze the incidence of detectable breast lesions, both by clinical and imaging exams, in women, in the State of Goiás, from 2010 and 2013. This is a descriptive study, using data from the Breast Cancer Information System (SISMAMA). The reports of breast lesions in the State of Goiás in women under 40 years of age and those aged 40 years and over between the periods of 2010 and 2013 were analyzed. In the period of 2011 we observed a 55.10% increase in the detection of lesions in women under the age of 40, in clinical and imaging exams, in relation to the year 2010. For women aged 40 years and over, in the 2012 period, there was a decrease of 8.62% in the detection of lesions in examinations in relation to the period of 2011. There was no significant variation in relation to the other periods. The greater detection of lesions in women under the age of 40 in 2011 may accompany the trend towards greater adherence to breast selfexamination in this age group. In 2012, there was a decrease in detections in women over 40 years of age, which may correspond to the underreporting of cases and lower adherence to gold standard tests such as mammography. When analyzing the two periods, it is inferred from IBGE estimates that the population of women in the State of Goiás increased by 2,904,762 in the period from 2010 to 2013, which was not accompanied by an increase in the number of clinical and imaging exams. Although there is a public policy for the screening and early detection of breast cancer in Brazil, this analysis shows the difficulty in adherence of women to preventive practices, indicating that screening programs are far from what is expected.breast, exams, lesions
