Centro Universitário UNIRGTo analyze the profile of the patients submitted to mammographic examination, emphasizing the importance of the care associated with prevention and early diagnosis. A cross-sectional study was based on the profile of patients submitted to mammographic exams performed in Tocantins according to different age groups in the period January/2010-November/2014, with recorded data in the Information System of Breast Cancer (SisMama). The chi-square test with 5% significance. Were realized 53.590 mammograms, being the age group between 45-49 years with the highest rate of mammography exams, 11.799. Of the total number of patients analyzed, 36.723 (68.52%) had already done the clinical examination of the breasts and 22.081 had previously performed mammography. According to anamnesis, 11.11% (n=5.957) were at high risk for malignant mammary neoplasia, 64.65% were not at high risk, and 24.22% did not know to say if their family history or to say if they had already had a histopathological diagnosis of breast lesion. When analyzing the mammography result, it was observed that the age group 40-49 is the one with the highest frequency of BI-RADS 3, 4, 5 and 6 compared to women with BI-RADS 1 and 2, but with no statistical significance (p=0.36). The tenuous relationship between the clinical examination of the breasts, the profile of the patients and the mammography make us recognize the importance of these for the early diagnosis of the malignant mammary disease. The highest index of mammographic examinations observed in this study differs from that recommended by the Ministry of Health, which recommends screening after the age of 50 years, including a higher number of altered exams in the age up to 49 years, confirming the importance of starting the mammography screening according to the recommendations of the Brazilian Society of Mastology.breast, mammography, prevention
