Federal University of Goiás, University of Rio Verde, Pontifical Catholic University of GoiásTo analyze the percentage of positive BI-RADS 4 and 5 mammographys in Goiás, from 2010 to 2015, of women between 50 and 69 years old and to investigate the psychological repercussions of positive results for diagnosed women. Cross-sectional descriptive study with secondary data from the Breast Cancer Information System (SISMAMA), evaluating the rate of positive mammographys Bi-RADS 4 and 5 between 2010 and 2015 of women from Goiânia and from 50 to 69 years old. From 2010 to 2015, 2790 diagnostic mammographys with clinical indication in the age group of 50 to 69 years were done in Goiás. Of these, 72 were positive BI-RADS 4 and 34 positive BI-RADS 5, 106 mammographys (3.80%). The year 2013 had the highest recorded number of diagnostic mammographys (776), contrasting with the lowest, in 2015, of 89 examinations. Regarding radiological classification, in 2011 there was the highest positive BI-RADS 4 (22) and in 2015 the lowest (2). Analogous to BI-RADS 5, 2014 had most of the cases (10) while 2011 counted only 2, followed by only 3 with 2015. Regarding the rest of Brazil, Goiás with 3, 80% of positive diagnostic mammographys BI-RADS 4 and 5 was below the percentage of the country, which computed 6, 97%. In addition, there was a significant drop in the number of diagnostic mammographys performed in Goiás, from 31,949 in 2010 to 10,305 in 2015, following the trend of Brazilian decline:. The positive diagnosis of breast cancer has a significant impact on the patient’s mental health. In this phase of transition, five important stages of the patient are identified when the diagnosis is confirmed: shock and denial; rage; bargain; depression and acceptance. Lastly, it is necessary to better evaluate what caused the expressive decrease in the number of diagnostic mammographys performed in Goiás.breast cancer
