Graduate Program in Health Sciences, Federal University of Uberlândia, Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Objective: To veriiy the association between usage time of endocrine therapy with aromatase inhibitors (AI), functional capacity (FC) and obesity, evaluated through anthropometric and body composition variables. Methodology: A cross-sectional study with 89 women with breast câncer under endocrine therapy. The Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ) was applied and body mass, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were measured. Bioelectrical impedance was used to calculate the fat liree mass (FFM), body fat (BF) and body fat percentage (% BF). The usage time of AI was named TI and T2 (<29.5 and >29.5 months, respectively) and women were classified into 3 groups according to FC: G1 = “mild to moderate difFiculty”; G2=”moderate to severe disability” and G3=”severe or veiy severe disability”. The Generalized Estimated Equations (GEE) were used to examine the association between the usage time of AI, FC and obesity, controlled for confounding factors. Results: In our study we found a high percentage of overweight women and this excess was more evident in Tl. An effect of the usage time of AI (TI and T2) on BMI and BF (p=0.019 and p=0.041) was observed, indicating that women in Tl when compared to T2 had higher means of BMI (31.01 ± 0.87, 28.18 ± 0.83, p = 0.019) and BF (32.22 ± 1.95, 26.76 ± 1.82, p = 0.04) in the beginning of the treatment. An large effect of FC on obesity was observed with significant differences in all anthropometric and body composition parameters evaluated, indicating that women in G3 had higher means of BMI, WC and WHtR and higher means of BF in G2. Conclusion: Women in endocrine therapy with AI had anthropometric measures and BF above the recommendations and greater functional disability at the beginning of the treatment indicating that this group needs multiprofessional follow-up.Body Composition; Breast Neoplasms; Functional Capacity; Aromatase Inhibitors.
