PREVALENCE STUDY OF ANDROGEN RECEPTORS IN WOMEN WITH TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER IN BARÃO DE LUCENA HOSPITAL – PERNAMBUCO

Objective: This article aims to assess the prevalence of androgen receptors in patients with triple negative breast cancer treated or under treatment at the Barão de Lucena Hospital in Recife-Pernambuco, from January 2013 to December 2014. Methods: A cross-sectional retrospective study done by performing immunohistochemistry for androgen receptor in paraffin blocks containing tumor fragment and medical records review. Results: The immunohistochemistry study of a patient (12.5%) showed moderate intensity immunophenotype of androgen receptor positive. In most cases (75%) the immunophenotype revealed was Androgen Receptor Negative. In another patient, no tumor was identified. All cases with tumor in the sample, were not special type (invasive ductal carcinoma), and the androgen receptor positive was invasive ductal carcinoma with apocrine differentiation. Conclusions: The prevalence of androgen receptors in this sample of patients with triple negative breast cancer at the Barão de Lucena Hospital, was similar to that observed in the literature, 12,5%. Further studies are needed to androgen receptors, and the prevalence evaluating its performance in the development of breast cancer, for which targeted therapies are developed, with the use of antiandrogens agents in the treatment of breast cancer.
